New York based all female band founded in 1985 (after an initiative by Mick Moloney) by Joanie Madden (flute, whistle, harmony vocals), Mary Cogan (guitar, mandolin, banjo), Mary Rafferty (accordion, harmony whistle), Donna Long (piano, whistle, harmony vocals), Eileen Ivers (fiddle) and Cathie Ryan (lead vocals, guitar).

Cathie Ryan left the band fairly soon, replaced by Aoife Clancy (lead vocals, guitar, bodhrán) and when Eileen Ivers left to join The Green Fields Of America she was replaced by Winnie Horan. When Horan left for Solas, Seamus Egan's sister, Siobhan Egan took over as the band's fiddler (also playing the bodhrán and harmony whistle).
