Solo playing

When it comes to playing technique, the zither banjo isn't really that much different from a regular banjo of th same size and with the same number of strings. But the instrument's softer tone and old connection to British traditional music may perhaps make it more suitable for
harp style and guitar style and slightly less for "modern" fiddle style and dulcimer style.

Accompaniment

In many ways the zither banjo is the British rhythm banjo and was used by most of the real old time singer/banjoists of
Margaret Barry's generation. You can use it for bashing out the chords and even for "American" folk, country and old-time picking, but perhaps some gentle "European" guitaristic fingerstyle is more apropriate.
