| | In 1977 All-Irish banjo champion Kieran Hanrahan co-founded the band Stockton's Wing with four other All-Irish champions: flutist Paul Roche, fiddler Maurice Lennon, bodhrán player Tommy Hayes and singer Tony Callinan. He stayed with the band until 1991, throughout their first "acoustic" period and their "electric" years. Since he left Stockton's Wing Hanrahan has toured and recorded as a soloist and also appeared as a guest musician with The Chieftains. Hanrahan may not have cuaght as much attention among the regular audience as some of the more flamboyant banjoists have, but among the "insiders" his fluent and tasty playing has always been higly acclaimed.
Discography | | The Chieftains teamed up with rock superstars Sting, Mick Jagger, Sinéad O'Connor, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Marianne Faithfull and Rolling Stones. My favourite track here is "Rocky Road to Dublin" where the Stones manages the impressive feat of adding some serious rock power to the old classic without loosing the original mood of the tune. Banjo content: Kieran Hanrahan who is no stranger to Irish banjo in an electric context, joins the fun on a track or two. | | | Chieftains leader Paddy Moloney wrote the soundtrack to the movie based on Brendan O'Carroll's novel "The Mammy." Banjoist Kieran Hanrahan appears on a track or two |
