 The rim is the major part of the banjo pot. It can be made from metal (aluminium) or wood and affects the sound quality considerably.

Generally a rim with a thick wall made from carefully selected maple is regarded to be the best, but there are occasional high-quality rims made from other sorts of wood and even from metal too.
