What is listed?

Instruments, accessories, parts, music equipment, books, instructional videos...

There's not much limit to what can be listed here actually.

What actually is listed depends of course on my capacity for research and writing.

If you know of something you think should be included in the buyer's guide, you can write a short presentation (keep it as factual as possible) and email it to me. If you include pictures, please make sure they're not copyright protected by somebody else!

Second hand and antique instruments

At the moment the buyer's guide is mainly focused on instruments and equipment that is available new today. There are however a few discontinued and even antique instruments included here and more will come.

Reviews and comments

Anybody is welcome to add their comments and reviews to the product presentations here. But keep a few things in mind:
  • Make sure you know the difference between a comment and a review.
  • Keep it as objective and factual as possible.
  • Stay on topic. Remember there's a perfectly good message board at this site for more general postings.
  • Links are not allowed. (They won't work either, so no need trying.)
  • I reserve the right to edit any content posted at any of my sites in any way I see fit.
  • I reserve the right to delete any content posted at any of my sites that I consider abusive and/or off topic.

The difference between a comment and a review

It's quite simple really:
A comment is a short - well - comment; just a few words sticking to a single point.
A review is an in-depth evaluation of the product in question. You really shouldn't write a review unless you really, really know it.

Sites

The buyer's guide is a common project for most of my music related sites:
Data is shared between all those sites. Only Musica Viva includes the entire buyer's guide though. At the other sites the guides are limited to only include instrument categories relevant to each site's main topic (with a very wide definition of "relevant").

Commercial listings

I have a little dilemma here. On one hand the buyer's guide has to be as unbiased as possible. On the other hand sponsored links are what finance the whole project. Without sponsors there just wouldn't be any irish-banjo buyer's guide!

My solution is to treat all products listed here equal with two minor exceptions:

  • Sponsored listings include a link to the store where you can buy the product, free listings usually don't.
  • Under otherwise equal conditions sponsored listings are placed before free ones in the lists.
But:
  • I will never recommend a product I believe is inferior to its competitors just because I get paid for it!
  • I will never refuse to list a product here simply because I don't get paid to list it.
