I've been working on a family of "buyers' guides" to meet the needs of readers who ask what they should buy. When I got to Appalachian dulcimer, I discovered that most so-called Appalachian dulcimers available online from Amazon and other big vendors were made in third-world countries, have very poor quality control, and cost nearly as much as dulcimers that were handmade by craftspeople in North America.
