Shantell is an award-winning Country singer-songwriter. Songs she has written or cowritten have reached as high as #2 on the charts and been featured on feature films and the television show Heart of Dixie.

She has also "paid her dues" as an independent artist and is not shy about sharing her "lessons learned" with other indies.

This is a link to a "roadmap" for independent artists planning an album release.

Shantell's "Top Five Questions About Nashville"

Shantell Ogden is a genuinely nice person. When wannabes find that out, they inevitably deluge her with the same questions.

If you're one of those wannabes, don't feel TOO bad; when I had a mentor in country music (the late Lenny Gault), I deluged him with dumb questions, too.

To help save you time, Shantell has posted her answers to the most frequent questions that people ask her:

Shantell explains what "releasing a single" means at all the different levels of the food chain.

She also explains which charts artists tend aim their promotion efforts toward at different levels of the "food chain."

Toward the end of the article, she uses the word "legit" to refer to the "cred" artists get to by hitting real music industry charts like Billboard, Music Row, or Billboard Indicator. If you haven't hit those charts, that doesn't mean you're not a "legit" musician. Only that bragging that you hit #1 on ReverbNation or something won't establish the kind of reputation you may be looking for among the "pros."
