My new blog about musicians who spend their lives on the fringes of the music industry.

Here's another new blog. This one's about investing in your musical future early and often, so skills you acquire can earn the most possible dividends the rest of your musical life. It's called "How Long Do You Expect to Live, Anyway?"

Musicians, you may think it's too early to start staking a claim to your little corner of cyberspace. This article tells you why you should register your domain name now:

This isn't my blog - it's Wall Street Journal article that Leanne Regalla brought to my attention, but it's worth a scan. Charlie Mars had already had hit records and national exposure when he lost his record contract - a common story even before streaming and file sharing took their toll on the industry. So he didn't exactly "start from scratch." But his lessons learned are very similar to some of the "lessons learned" from other folks who DID start from scratch.

Okay, I've been nagging you to have your own name registered as a domain name and to have your own web page. In this article I nag you about setting up a Facebook Musician page, instead of trying to manage your facebook presence from you Personal page, cat videos and all.

Related to my "end game post" above, Kevin Bruener, who blogs for CDBaby must be reading my mind. He just published a podcast with expressing some of the same concerns. http://cdbabypodcast.com/2016/02/164-ma ... ic-career/
