Banjo cases and softbags

Unless you're only planning to play in your own living room, your banjo needs some protection: a case or a softbag.

The banjo case

For maximum protection you need a sturdy, well padded, form-fitting banjo case. Finding a good case for five-stringed and plectrum banjos is relateively easy, but if you play the tenor or guitar-banjo it's a bit harder. The only one I've found on the internet is the Aria tenor banjo/guitar-banjo case
at Music123. I can't guarantee it'll fit your banjo though. Banjo sizes are relatively standardized, but there are some differences.

As an alternative you could get a five-string banjo case. The selection is much wider for that than for the tenor banjo. You'll get some extra space around the peghead but that shouldn't matter too much.

The banjo softbag

Softbags used to mean flimsy canvas-or-something covers that hardly offered any real protection to the instrument. Things have changed though and a modern padded softbag offers just as good protection as a hard case from everything except violent blows. It's much more practical too.

I definitely wouldn't entrust a banjo without a hardcase to an airline or anything like that, but if you carry your instrument yourself, a softcase should be perfect.
