When only the best is good enough you should try one of these banjos:
Bacon & Day (second-hand only)
Before WW II Bacon & Day were Vega's main competitor in the banjo market, and their instruments are still highly regarded today.
Just like Vega only pre-war banjos are really regarded as classics, but the 1940s/40s Bacon Belmont model is a very interesting alternative if you're looking for a good second-hand banjo that doesn't cost too much.
Clareen
Irelands foremost banjo maker.
Deering
Perhaps the best known high end banjo brand today.
OME
Simply beautiful banjos.
Richelieu Banjos
Just take a look at their "Ne Plus Ultra" model!
Richard Ennis
(No information available.)
Sully
Banjos designed by Tony "Sully" Sullivan and built by some of England's finest luthiers.
Vega (second-hand only)
The company that invented the tenor banjo. Out of production for more than half a century, but still regarded by many as the finest banjos ever made. Especially their "White Ladye" and "Tu-ba-phone" models are higly sought after by players and collectors alike. Original Vega tenor banjos were common until the 1960s when people started converting them into five-string banjos. Today you're really lucky if you can find one. It's got to be a pre-war banjo though!
